Painting rippon lea

The drawing above shows Rippon Lea, in Hotham Street, Elsternwick.
It was built in 1868, but substantially modified in the late 1880's. In the 1930's it underwent a further round of changes, mostly internal and it thus reflects the evolution in "style" over half a century.
I particularly like the Deco bathroom details, which co-exist with Victorian trappings in other rooms of the house.

Sturt street Ballarat painting

Shown above is the first painting I did in Ballarat.!
In the foreground stands a statue of Robbie Burns.
Behind him is the old National Mutual Insurance office, built in 1905(it originally had a dome on the tower!) and in the background is the Town Hall, which dates from 1870-1872.

The painting above shows the Chapel at Xavier College, in
Melbourne. It was built between 1927-1934. The College was opened in Kew in 1878 and has an impressive collection of buildings.
The painting is 200 by 300 mm, in ink and watercolour, on heavyweight Bockinford paper.

The painting above,shows Lygon street, in Melbourne.
The building in the foreground houses the Lemongrass restaurant and stands on the corner of Lygon and Pelham streets.

The painting above shows Parliament House in Spring street.
The building dates from 1856 and was designed by Knight and Kerr.
Later stages were by Peter Kerr .

 

 
The painting on the left shows the Centre Place laneway, which runs off Flinders Lane.It is well worth a visit for it's combination of a narrow space coupled with fine detailing and lots of pleasant cafe's
